Sony Announce Fresh NFC-touting Accessories for the Xperia Z1 and Xperia Z

Earlier today, Sony announced the Xperia Z1 and the QX line of lens cameras at IFA 2013. Not content with just releasing two new brilliant and innovative products, Sony has announced some decent accessories for the Xperia Z1 and the Xperia Z. One of the more interesting accessories announced by Sony is the Smart Imaging Stand (IPT-DS10M) that Sony is promising can take photos and video of a social gathering without having to stay involved with the smartphone. With face detection on the phone and presumably some special software, this could be something for parties and the like. Complimenting that is a standard tripod for the device (SPA-MK20M).

As well as the above camera side of things, there’s the BM10 Bluetooth music receiver, that smartly hooks up to your HiFI and allows you to listen to music at both higher volume and in better quality.

To compliment that, there’s the IM10, which is a Miracast box for your TV, that looks much the same as the BM10. Which is pretty handy if you don’t have a Miracast supported TV, the addition of NFC makes things nice and simple as well. Turning the BM10 and IM10 into more of a home appliance than a niche gadget.

NFC is very much at the heart of the BM10, the IM10 and other offerings from Sony. Seemingly one of the only manufacturers to make decent use of the technology, Sony has used NFC for pretty much everything, including their own take on the humble NFC Tag, the SmartTag. This is something that Sony has been doing for a while but, it looks like they’ve been revamped a little.

What do you think of Sony’s use of NFC? Is this what other manufacturers should be doing or is Sony just milking the concept? Let us know what you think in the comments below.
