Just last week, Sony announced the Xperia Z1. While the name was a bit confusing, since there was the Xperia Z already. Sony is now working on the Xperia Z2. That’s not really surprising, because it takes the better part of a year to make a phone and get it announced. However the surprising part here is that the Xperia Z2’s specs have leaked. That doesn’t normally happen until it’s closer to availability.
The Xperia Z was special in the fact that it was waterproof. Now the Xperia Z1 was special because it had that big and beefy 20.7MP camera, without putting a big hump on the back of the phone like the Nokia Lumia 1020 or the Galaxy S4 Zoom. Now we are about to start talking about the Xperia Z2, talk about getting the hype going early.
There’s a source that TechKiddyis sourcing, that claims to be close to the situation, who is revealing what he says is the Xperia Z2, or the C770X. It’s also being codenamed the Avatar. As far as the specs go, we’re looking at:
- 5.2-inch IGZO Triluminous display with 550ppi
- Snapdragon 800 (MSM8974) Chipset
- 3GB of RAM
- 20.7MP camera from the Xperia Z1
- Android 4.4 – KitKat
These specs seem like a tech geek’s wet dream. But 550ppi? Wow. Sony must be stepping up to a 2560×1600 resolution display or similar. That would make the Xperia Z2’s display have the most pixels per inch, even beating the HTC One which is sitting at 468ppi. It also looks like Sony is following Samsung’s footsteps in pushing 3GB of RAM as the new standard. Honestly, Sony’s UI doesn’t need it, unless they are planning on putting more into their skin. Samsung’s needs it because there’s a ton of stuff in there. Stuff you’ll use and stuff you won’t use. Anyways, these specs have me excited.
How many of you would buy the Xperia Z2 if it came with these specs? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below.
