The Holiday Season is almost in full swing at this point, which means that it’s time for some more Chromebooks! While Google and HP have gotten all cosy to produce the Chromebook 11, Acer hasn’t lost interest in the platform, and they’re back with an improved version of last year’s offering. The C720 from Acer is a different Chromebook than Google’s new darling from HP. Instead of a dual-core Exynos under the hood, there’s a Haswell Celeron from Intel. Also, RAM is doubled from 2GB to 4GB in Acer’s latest. At 11.6-inches with a 1366 x 768 resolution, this is similar to HP’s Chromebook in a couple of ways.
While HP’s offering is for everyone, Acer’s C720 is just another laptop. Looking at it on a shelf, you would just think it another diminutive laptop, it’s only when you open the lid or take a look at the Chrome logo on the lid that you realize it’s a Chromebook. For some people though, that’s exactly what they’re looking for and at $249.99, Acer has something of a bargain on their hands. The C720 is no looker but, it’s understated and should go relatively unnoticed in its steel-gray attire.
Acer are saying that there will be more configurations of this on the way, with rumors that a touchscreen version is coming along with a 4G LTE version. Battery life should be better than last year’s model thanks to the improvements made to Haswell, add that to the replacement of a hard drive for a 16GB SSD and Acer’s C720 is more of a traditional Chromebook than last year’s.
There’s no word on availability just yet but, it should be coming to Play Store in the coming weeks and wherever else you find Chromebooks. At $249.99, it’ll be interesting to see how this sells against the new Chromebook for Everyone. What do you think? Is this a better buy than HP’s Chromebook 11?
