When Google announced their $35 Chromecast dongle, the Internet got pretty excited. A device can help you share content on the Internet with your best screen in the house? For $35? It’s no surprise the device was a success and sold out shortly after going on sale. Needless to say, the Chromecast is easily one of Google’s most successful devices in recent years. However, it’s far from perfect. The fact that it’s only available in the US has left much of the world unimpressed. However, Amazon seems to have fixed that for some of you.
As Android Central has noticed, the Chromecast is now available to buy on Amazon.com, with affordable shipping to territories outside the US. For those of you in the UK, you can buy the Chromecast and have it shipped internationally for around £6.00. That’s not too bad considering these are clearly coming from the US. Australian buyers can get in on the game, too. Heading to the same Amazon.com listing should allow you to buy the device and have it shipped out to you, too. Shipping and tax costs could vary depending where you are.
There’s confirmation of it being live in the UK and Australia and I myself, based in Blighty, have just placed an order for one myself. So, no matter where you are in the world, go ahead and give it a try – Amazon might be shipping to your corner of the world, too.
Unfortunately, the Google Play listing for the app is still US-Only so you’ll have to locate the APK from somewhere else for the time being. This tells us that either Google has nothing to do with this or, they’ve not switched on their own international plans just yet. However, we wouldn’t be surprised if this was entirely Amazon’s doing.
Needless to say though, those outside of the US could now be able to get their hands on the wonderful little dongle, which for how much it costs, provides excellent value for money. If you were able to place an order, let us know where in the world you are!
