CyanogenMod, the custom firmware built off of Android, has been running on a variety of devices for years now. If you’re unfamiliar with CyanogenMod, it’s basically a stock Android experience with some tweaks and additions from the CyanogenMod Team. It’s completely free to use and is often the best way of updating your device to the latest version of Android. Samsung’s Galaxy Note 3 is undoubtedly a super-popular device and so, it’s understandable that the team would want to bring CyanogenMod to the Note 3. Steve Kondik has taken to Google+ to tease just that – the Galaxy Note 3 running CyanogenMod. Take a look for yourself:
Of course, there’s no point in asking when this is going to finished or released as nightlies or something like that. Asking for ETAs is hardly courteous and the only answer is “it’ll be ready, when it’s ready” which is frankly as good an answer as any. Since CyanogenMod is now a company, we’d assume they have some more resources to devote to this sort of thing but still, if you’re looking to get hold of such software, patience is still required.
For a lot of people, the Galaxy Note line of devices is one that custom ROMs like CyanogenMod could provide a worse experience, rather than a better one. After all, we know that Samsung is keen on throwing in numerous additions into their software on their devices. However, if you’re the type of user that relies on root apps, you can now root the Galaxy Note 3 without tripping KNOX. We’re curious as to whether or not you’d give up TouchWiz and all the apps Samsung provide to get a hold of the stock Android experience so, let us know in the comments below!
