Dell Returns to Tablets: Introduces Venue 7 and Venue 8 Starting at $149

It wasn’t too long ago that Dell had declared they were leaving the tablet game. Well it looks like that didn’t last too long. As Dell is back now and has announce the Venue 7 and Venue 8. Both of which are running Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean. Both tablets also come sporting a 2GHz Intel Clover Trail processor.

The Venue 8 has a 8-inch 1280×800 resolution display with 16GB of internal storage and an option for LTE connectivity. While the Venue 7 is sporting a 7-inch 1280×800 resolution display and also has 16GB of internal storage. Dell will begin selling both of these tablets in the US and “select countries worldwide” on October 18th. Right now the Venue 7 WiFi version is priced at $149 and the Venue 8 WiFi is priced at $179. So not bad prices, for the specs that they are packing. Although a 2GHz Intel processor should be pretty speedy. Just not sure about battery life.

Additionally, Dell introduced two Windows 8.1 tablets which are the Venue 8 Pro and Venue 11 Pro, which are also powered by Intel processors. The Venue 8 Pro is featuring a 1280×800 resolution display and the Venue 11 Pro is featuring a 1920×1080 resolution display. These will be on sale for $299 and $499 respectively. These will also be on sale starting October 18th in the US and other select countries worldwide.

While it’s great to see Dell back in the tablet game, if for nothing else as another competitor to the likes of Samsung, ASUS, Acer, and Lenovo (among many others). It just seems like Dell just threw left over parts and called it the Venue 7 and Venue 8. Yes it’s running the 2GHz Intel Clover Trail. But as we’ve seen with other Intel powered devices running Android, they don’t perform that well, and the battery is definitely not that great. This is the same thing that HP did back at Mobile World Congress with the Slate 7. Then they came out a few months ago with some pretty powerful Tegra 4 powered tablets that I’d like to check out. So let’s hope Dell does the same.

Would any of you buy the Dell Venue 7 or 8?
