Google To Release New Wireless Charging Dock That Supports Nexus 5 and Nexus 7

Today, Google finally announced the Nexus 5 as an official product, not just something we knew was coming but we didn’t know when. It’s available now but, if you’re looking to purchase one on the Play Store, you’re already looking at a sizable waiting time. Nevertheless, the Nexus 5 in all its glory is now an official Nexus and an official Google product. With some pretty great specs, this year’s Nexus 5 holds its own against other comparable smartphones. There are also some accessories available on the Play Store too, with covers and bumpers available for the Nexus 5 itself. One thing that Google has shown an interest in previously, is wireless charging and they’re back, with a new wireless charging dock that supports this year’s Nexus 5 and Nexus 7.

As The Verge is reporting, Google says this dock will be available to purchase from today on the Play Store but, it doesn’t look like it’s gone live just yet. Any time in the next two weeks however, would be a massive improvement on the docks for last year’s Nexus 7 and wireless charging dock for the Nexus 4. This time around, they’ve changed the design of their charger and instead of the cut in half sphere look of last year’s we’re looking at something more like an upside down trapezoidal shape. It’s glossy on the top and presumably charges any Qi-wireless device but, of course only those with the locating magnets will be able to stick to the device.

There’s no official word on when this will be available as Google said it would be today but, that doesn’t seem quite right. Our best advice would be to continue to return to the Play Store if you’re looking for one of these. And, if you’re still holding on to that Nexus 4 of yours, this should charge that, too but, don’t expect it to perform as the Nexus 5 would with this new plate of Google’s.
