Finally we’ve got some concrete information about when the Google event is. In fact, Google is sending out invites right now to many members of the press. Just last night, we had see the Nexus 5 land on the Play Store, and then disappear a few hours later. This invite doesn’t really confirm that we’ll see the Nexus 5, but it seems very likely. The invite is all about Google Play and says “Join us for a night out with Google Play”. So I’m kind of expecting some big news regarding Google Play. Of course it could just be because everything they are announcing is going to be available through Google Play.
Next week is going to be a busy week for tech people. Apple is having their event on October 22nd for the new iPads, while Google’s is October 24th. It isn’t confirmed what we’ll be seeing at this event, but we are expecting Android 4.4, Nexus 5 and a new Nexus 10. There’s also some rumblings about a Google smartwatch.
The event is being held in New York City at 7pm, which is a pretty strange time for Google, usually their events are in the morning or around noon. Hopefully they aren’t recreating Samsung’s Galaxy S4 event back in March in NYC. While the Galaxy S4 is a good device, the presentation was not. Additionally, Google usually streams their events on YouTube. So I wouldn’t be surprised to see this one streamed as well. More than likely on the Google Play channel, but as soon as we learn more about their streaming plans, we’ll be sure to pass them along.
This is the best time of year. It’s like the week before Christmas for Android fans. Hopefully Google has a few surprises up their sleeves, but we’ll have to wait and see what happens.
Update: According to one of Geek.com’s source, it looks like no hardware is being announced at this event. It’s all software. Looks like some major changes to Google Play then if they are doing an entire event for it without any hardware. We’ll be sure to let you guys know what’s up once we learn more.
Update #2: According to +Android Police, this event won’t feature hardware or any news. So why the invites Google? Looks like Google is the troll king!
