With smaller Android tablets, like the Nexus 7, proving to be popular it seems that everyone wants a piece of the pie. While Samsung offered a larger version of the their Galaxy Note with the Note 8.0, LG is offering an even slightly larger than that G Pad 8.3, which as you might have guessed, features an 8.3-inch display. LG is hoping to differentiate themselves with a slightly larger form factor, without compromising on specs, or more importantly; price. The G Pad 8.3 is now available from BestBuy online -in black or white – for just $349 for 16GB of storage. Which doesn’t make it that much more expensive than the 2013 model of the Nexus 7 and undercuts the Galaxy Note 8.0.
The device shares a lot of its DNA with the LG G2, including most of its specs, which you take a look at below:
- 1.7 GHz Quad Core Snapdragonâ„¢ 600
- 8.3-inch, Full HD IPS Display (1920—1200 pixels/273 ppi)
- 2GB RAM, 16 GB eMMC ROM; microSD Slot up to 64 GB
- 5MP AF BSI
- 4,600 mAh Li-Polymer
- Android Jelly Bean 4.2.2.
- 216.8 x 126.5 x 8.3mm
- 338g
With a larger display at 8.3-inches, the G Pad 8.3 offers more than the Nexus 7, and the iPad Mini, without costing too much extra. The build of the device seems to be good, too with a brushed aluminum panel featuring around the back of the device and some very slim bezels, indeed. Where the G2 might fall down in the eyes of potential buyers is its software. The Nexus 7 has earned itself a reputation of offering a solid software experience without the bloatware. Meanwhile, the Note 8.0 offers the S-Pen and all the apps that come with that. A lot of that however, often comes down to personal taste.
We reviewed the G2 and really liked it, if the G Pad 8.3 is cut from the same cloth, we can imagine LG selling a fair amount of these guys this Holiday season. Will you be picking up LG’s latest Android tablet? Let us know in the comments below!
