We’ve already heard of the Mad Catz M.O.J.O. Android gaming console, it was actually shown off at E3 earlier this year. Mad Catz has finally put together a ship date and price to their M.O.J.O. This console is meant to take on other Android-powered consoles like the Ouya and Shield from NVIDIA. The M.O.J.O. is actually an open platform and it’s compatible with TegraZone, primarily because it has a Tegra 4 chip inside, as well as Google Play and the Amazon App Store. The console will come preloaded with plenty of Google and NVIDIA games when it ships on December 10th.
Mad Catz was also kind enough to shed some light on what’s going on with the M.O.J.O., revealing the Tegra 4 CPU running Android 4.2.2 along with about 2GB of RAM, 16GB of internal storage. Although it is expandable via SDXC up to an additional 128GB of storage. There’s also support for Bluetooth 4.0, and WiFi a/b/g/n. The ports on the console include a USB 3.0, a USB 2.0, HDMI out for 1080p support, a slot for the microSD card, 3.5mm headphone jack and Ethernet port, for those that want to hardwire their console to their router.
In the past, Mad Catz has mentioned support for PC-based streaming, which was originally noted by Gamasutra, but any mention of that functionality has currently been stripped from the Mad Catz website, and Mad Catz also hasn’t commented on that just yet. When the M.O.J.O. and it’s C.T.R.L.R. controller ships later this year it’ll be available “limited quantities” sort of like the Nexus launches. It’ll be available for $250 or £220 in the UK. Which you can pre-order now if you so choose.
It’s great to see more Android-powered gaming consoles coming out. Especially to compete with the Ouya. I’m excited to see what other consoles running Android might come out in the next year or so. Since I wasn’t really all that impressed with Ouya’s, I’d like to see what Mad Catz has to offer and who else can throw one into the arena, so to say.
