Motorola Moto G Leaks Out, Appears to be a Quad-Core Version of the Moto X with 8GB of Internal Storage

The Moto G. It was first trademarked a few weeks ago. At that point we didn’t think much of it. We then saw it appear on Motorola’s site earlier this week. Well the term “Moto G” appeared, and directed us to motog.com which didn’t show us anything. Now on Nexus day, @evleaks has posted a picture of the Moto G with some specs. You might be a bit surprised and even start thinking “wtf?”

As far as specs go, it looks like it’s running a 4.7-inch 720p display (probably still AMOLED for Active Display), along with a Snapdragon S4 Pro (quad-core this time), 8GB and 16GB internal storage options, 1950mAh battery made by LG and it’ll be free on contract. It’s literally a Moto X but with less internal storage. Moto X has the same specs, except a 2200mAh battery and 16GB or 32GB of internal storage. More than likely the Moto G won’t have a microSD card slot either.

I’m not quite sure what Motorola was thinking with the Moto G. But since it is free on contract, it might actually sell a bit. Although we still are not sure where it’s going. This could be the cheaper Moto X we’ve been hearing about, or it could be one of the devices Motorola said they’d bring to Europe and other markets soon. If it is a cheaper Moto X, it’s good to see them only doubling down on the storage and battery and not the rest of the specs. They are already having trouble selling people on a phone with a year old processor inside.

We aren’t sure what features are coming with this one, but I’m sure we’re going to get Active Display, Touchless Controls and all the other features of the Moto X. Hopefully we’ll know more soon. Although the date on the device says February 5th at 11:35. Hopefully that doesn’t mean the date it’ll be announced.
