Earlier this week we saw some sample images taken with the Nexus 5 pop up on Google+. But they were quickly taken down. Now that the Nexus 5 is official, and some reviewers have their hands on them, we are starting to see even more sample pictures taken with the phone.
Just a reminder, the Nexus 5 is featuring a 8MP camera that does have Optical Image Stabilization, known as OIS. That feature is also part of the LG G2, which takes amazing pictures. According to the camera whizz, Brian Klug over at AnandTech, the Nexus 5 is using Sony’s IMX179 CMOS with a 1/3,2-inch sensor size. The individual pixels are 1.4um in size, which along with OIS should really work well in low-light situations, where the HTC One’s camera excels.
So far reviews aren’t out for the Nexus 5 yet. Justsome hands on. We’ve got some samples from the camera throughout this post, which you can let us know how it looks to you in the comments below. As I’m not a pro-photographer, more of an amateur one. But to me these images look pretty good. Now it’s no G2 or Galaxy Note 3, but definitely better than the Nexus 4 from last year. Many people complained about the Nexus 4’s camera, but I never really had a problem with it.
The camera is always one of the biggest issues with the Nexus, and it might have been solved this time. But we do still need the camera app to be rewritten, since it appears that is the reason the camera is not so great. The camera app got a minor update in Android 4.3, but nothing major. It hasn’t seen much of an update since Android 4.0. It’s seen some major changes in each version since then.
So what do you think of these images? Are they good enough to persuade you to pick up the Nexus 5? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below.
