Pantech is getting ready to announce the Vega Note LTE-A on October 10, according to an invitation to an event sent out to South Korean press outlet Osen, which teases the rear outline of the phone. Following on from the smaller 5.6 inch Vega LTE-A, the Vega Note LTE-A is yet another direct competitor to Samsung’s Note 3 in the increasingly crowded phablet market. Whether Samsung will take kindly to Pantech’s inclusion of ‘Note’ in the phone’s name, remains to be seen.
Just in case you haven’t heard of the South Korean based electronics manufacturer previously, they are actually just as popular as their better known local rivals: Samsung and LG. Pantech are known for packing their phones with top-of-the-line specifications. And although their phone names don’t exactly flow off the tongue, they do offer great value for money.
Here are the known specs:
5.9 inch display (almost certainly at least 1080p)
Support for Long Term Evolution-Advanced (LTE-A)
Stylus included
The Vega Note LTE-A is also expected to pack the following, most of which is fast becoming the standard level of specifications for flagship phones:
Snapdragon 800 2.3 GHz quad-core CPU
at least 2 GB of RAM
Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean OS (or even 4.3 Jelly Bean)
Judging by the picture of the phone on the invitation, Pantech look to have included a trackpad/fingerprint scanner on the rear of the device, a little below and to the right of the camera lens. A stylus is also believed to be included, no details are available yet as to whether the stylus is stored within the phone. It will also be interesting to see what, if any, optimizations have been performed to the android firmware in order to promote the everyday use of the stylus, such as Samsung’s Air Command.
Sadly, unless you happen to live in South Korea or parts of Russia, you probably don’t have access to a (LTE-A) network. So don’t expect to see the Vega Note LTE-A available in your country anytime soon.
