Is it too early to start talking about the Galaxy S5? Pretty much but, the rumor mill waits for no man and we’re pretty sure that the next iteration of Samsung’s flagship line is already being worked on and we’re sure that plans are already in place. Each year, the camera technology inside smartphone flagships gets that little bit better and 2014 isn’t going to be any different. This year, the headlining spec for imaging were the 13 Megapixel cameras included in devices like the Galaxy S4 and the Galaxy Note 3. Of course, Sony’s Xperia Z1 breaks the mold with a 20.7 Megapixel camera. However, next year, 16 Megapixel sensors are apparently going to be all over the place and both Sony and a division of Samsung Electronics, Samsung LSI – better known as System LSI – are already competing to supply the Galaxy S5’s camera.
This year’s Galaxy S4 used imaging tech from Sony and it was received pretty well, even in the face of HTC’s “UltraPixel” technology. ETNews is reporting that both Sony and System LSI of Samsung are looking to supply the Galaxy S5’s camera. Earlier this year, new tech like ISOCELL and Optical Image Stabilization was showed off in new System LSI cameras and sensors but, that tech might not be ready for when Samsung flips the switch on mass production. Sony meanwhile, have proved that they can make decent sensors and they’re more than capable of coming up with the numbers Samsung will be in need of. If Samsung is going to deliver a new design with the Galaxy S5, chances are that they’re will be a much higher demand than there has been for the Galaxy S4.
Camera tech aside, it’s also said that the Galaxy S5 could feature a 64-bit CPU, much like Apple’s iPhone 5S. That’s not really surprising, as even though Samsung has risen to the top of the mobile tech game, they still enjoy the odd game of “me too“. No matter what ends up in the Galaxy S5 though, we’re pretty certain that Samsung will have another hit on their hands. Besides, we have a long time to wait and see what Samsung will be showing off in 2014.
