Is it too early to talk about the Galaxy S5 or the Galaxy Note 4? Of course it is but, that doesn’t mean we can’t look forward and besides, it’s a lot of fun to think of what’s coming next. Especially after a year of some pretty impressive technical achievements in the mobile arena. With processors smashing the 2 Ghz mark from Qualcomm and Samsung embracing the Octa-Core CPU – at least in some markets. It’s just not the speed of our devices that have improved either, imaging has come on a long way in the last 12 months. Not just in hardware but, in software as well. As the fairly poor stock offering from Google shows us, software makes a lot of difference when it comes to taking a decent picture. No matter though, a bad sensor is a bad sensor. Samsung haven’t been known to ship devices with poor sensors in them before, and next year seems set to be no different.
A recent report from PatentBolt details what could be the new camera hitting flagships from Samsung in 2014. Interestingly enough, this new camera has been developed by Samsung Micro-Electronics. The new camera unit is said to feature some serious anti-shake correction properties. Correcting an angle of error up to 1.5 degrees, which is far better than the more common 0.7 degrees.
Anti-shake is pretty important in smartphones and as we can see in LG’s G2 it can deliver some impressive results. It’s said that this new sensor could be 8 times brighter than the current sensors in Samsung’s flagships. More light generally means a better picture, and of course better low-light performance. With smartphone shooters now able to take pretty decent photos in most situations, low-light performance is the new battleground and we’re pretty sure that Samsung will want to be leading, rather than following someone else.
Samsung have already put together sample boards of the camera and high-volume orders are said to start early 2014. It’s not surprising that we’re hearing something of the Note 4 and Galaxy S5 already but, things could change and there’s high chance that Samsung will go a completely different route.
