Yahoo Mail has been around for a long time. In fact, for many of us it was probably our first email provider, or it might have been Hotmail. I know I started out with Yahoo Mail, but it became such a spammy place that I had to leave, when I got my first Android phone I, of course, had to switch to Gmail or at least set up a Gmail account. Ever since then I’ve been loving Gmail.
Well today, Yahoo Mail turned 16. It also got a nice makeover to celebrate it’s Sweet 16. Yahoo is releasing brand new Android, iOS and desktop versions of their app throughout the day. We just love staged rollouts right? At least these will just be going out throughout the day and not take weeks like Google’s apps. The update looks really nice and color. It actually looks kind of minimal in the fact there’s not a ton of stuff in the notification bar. What else is awesome is the fact that it is actually tablet-optimized. Which is something we love to see.
The new app on both Android and iOS can take advantage of “visually rich themes including curated Flickr photos, for your browser, smartphone and tablet.” So it’s cool to see themes available, especially since you can use your own Flickr photos which are really cool. I’d love to be able to take pictures of my city and use them as a theme in my inbox. But unfortunately I only use Yahoo Mail for Spam stuff. Hopefully Yahoo can get a handle on all that Spam stuff and get it all squared away. I’d love to go back to using Yahoo as my second email address (since everyone has my Gmail, would be hard to switch back).
There’s a video down below showing it off, that was done by Yahoo. What do you think of the new Mail apps? Would you give Yahoo Mail another try?
