So we just got our hands on the HTC One Max today, and this is the first time we’ve gotten to use Sense 5.5. So you can expect plenty of how to’s and tutorials over the next few days as we dig into our review of the device. One of the new things in Sense 5.5 has to do with Blinkfeed. You know the Flipboard type news feature they added in Sense 5 on the HTC One earlier this year? I actually liked Blinkfeed, but there were a few things I wanted changed or added, which I believe they added in Sense 5.5, but we’ll talk more about that later on. One of the big things here is that we can actually turn off Blinkfeed, so that it’s not our first home screen anymore. Which is a great thing. So we’re going to show you how to do that today.
- On one of your home screens (won’t work on the Blinkfeed screen) long press on the screen
- Now you’ll see the familiar interface to add widgets, apps and shortcuts on your homesreen
- Up at the top, you’ll see “Blinkfeed On” just tap on that
- Now you should see “Blinkfeed Off”
- It’s literally just that simple.
Additionally, you can set your default home screen to any page you want now. Which I believe was in Sense 5 as well, but just in case it wasn’t. Right now I have the second home screen set as my default, however that may change once I play with Blinkfeed a bit more. Since you can actually add in Google+ to Blinkfeed.
How many of you are going to keep Blinkfeed on? Or are you excited to be able to turn it off now in Sense 5.5? I think it’s a good choice for HTC to give users, instead of making us stick with it like the My Magazine on the Note 3.
