Just yesterday we were told that the ASUS Transformer Pad TF701T which just went on sale a couple of weeks ago, would get the Android 4.3 update on November 18th. And no, you’re calendar isn’t wrong, today is November 14th. ASUS was actually 4 days early getting the update out. That’s definitely a good thing for any OEM and something that doesn’t happen often. Once more, Android 4.3 has been posted on the ASUS support site, so you can download the full ROM right now and install it on your brand new Transformer Pad TF701T tablet right now.
As most of you probably know already, Android 4.3 doesn’t include a ton of new features, but mostly under-the-hood stuff. With the Android 4.3 update from ASUS, we’re being told that we will be seeing battery life and charging improvements and tweaks to the dock’s trackpad. Battery life improvements are always great in an update. No matter how great battery life is, we’ll always complain about it.
It’s important to note here that there are two different firmware versions. There’s one for the Taiwanese SKU and one for the rest of the world. So you’ll want to be careful of that. So make sure you grab the right one before flashing it. I’d hate to see people flashing the wrong firmware and possibly brocking their device.
If you don’t want to flash the full ROM, you can always wait for the OTA which should be rolling out now, but ASUS may wait until November 18th to start pushing the OTA out. Simply go into Settings, then tap on About Tablet, System Updates, and tap on Check for Updates. The full ROM is about 1GB in size, which isn’t surprising. Samsung’s OTA for Android 4.3 on the Galaxy S4 was 719MB last night, and that’s just the OTA not the full ROM.
How many of you with the Transformer Pad TF701T have already flashed Android 4.3 on your tablet? Let us know in the comments below.
