I am a huge photography buff and as cameras on our smartphones continue to improve, I am relying more and more on my Galaxy Note 3 to take pictures than I am with my Canon DSLR. Oh, I still take the heavy Canon to take heavy pictures, but for the most part, I am happy to rely on my Note 3 as a daily snapper. Not with my Note 3, but with other smartphones I have owned, most notably my Droid Bionic, I was always looking for a better camera app than the one that came on the Bionic, and I settled for Camera ZOOM FX.
Today, SmugMug’s popular photo app (20 million iOS users “awesomize” their photos), Camera Awesome is now available for Android devices for only $2.99. It is compatible with the following Android devices:
- Samsung Galaxy SIII, S4
- Galaxy Nexus
- Note 2, Note 3
- Nexus 4, (Nexus 5 coming soon)
- Nexus 7, Nexus 10
- Sony Xperia Z
- HTC One
- MotoX, Motorola Droid Razr,
- Kindle Fire HDX 7″ and 8.9″ coming soon
Camera Awesome for Android supports the following new and exclusive features:
- Shooting modes: includes high-speed burst, panorama, and HDR
- Anti-shake video mode: video image stabilization
- Face recognition and tracking: automatically identifies and tracks multiple faces in the shot to keep subjects in perfect focus
- ISO, White Balance, and Exposure: power users can choose among multiple white balance modes, exposure compensation values, and manually select ISO settings from 100 to 1600 to capture the perfect shot
- Resolution settings: shoot both photos and video in multiple resolutions
- Selective Editing: touch to add or erase which parts of the image have filter applied
After you select a photo, you can start working with some of the screens and options to adjust your photo, using multiple tools, to just the way you want it. After you save, or “awesomize” your photo, you can begin sharing it on one of the many social media sites that the app will allow:
- Sinaweibo
- Google+
- Photobucket
- Picasa
- Tumblr
- YouTube
- Flickr
- You may also share to any other services via supporting apps installed on your device
Camera Awesome also allows the user to apply any number of Textures or Filter to your photo, all with a few simple presses on the image. It is clear that Camera Awesome takes our photographs seriously and it is nice to see this “awesome” app brought over for us Android users – it is still in version 1.0, so there will probably be a few bugs that will need worked out, but all good things come to those that wait. Let us know in the comments or on Google+ is you generally use a third party camera app, or do you prefer the app that came with your device.
