Last but not least, the mobile data versions of the Nexus 7 finally have their updates for KitKat. It’s rolling out via OTA, which is how we are all getting these links for the OTA. Similar to the Nexus 4 OTA links we posted earlier, these updates will not wipe your data, but its still a good idea to backup your data just in case. We’ve got the Nexus 7 (2012) 3G/HSPA+ version along with the Nexus 7 (2013) LTE version here. It’s quite easy to update it as well. Just download the update down below and use the adb sideload command to sideload it to your device. You will need to be stock, but you can be rooted. It does work with a custom recovery, like TWRP or ClockworkMod. The update is a little over 240MB in size.

If you’re looking to root your Nexus 7 after installing the update, that’s still very easy to do. Simply download TWRP or CWM, and flash it via fastboot, then reboot into recovery and install SuperSU, do another reboot and you’re all done! It’s just that simple.
So now that all the Nexus devices are getting their update, we should start seeing the Google Play Edition devices like the HTC One and Galaxy S4 devices soon. Although the rollout isn’t finished, it is on its way to every device. So those upset about the Moto X getting the Android 4.4 KitKat update, don’t be too upset, your update is coming. But Google doesn’t push out the OTA’s all at once. Which they explained yesterday, and it makes perfect sense.
