Galaxy Gear's Smart Remote App Allows you To Control Your TV Through the IR Blaster on your Galaxy S4 or Galaxy Note 3

For those of you that bought the Galaxy Gear, you might be happy to know that the Smart Remote app is available for the smartwatch, and allows you to control your TV. Earlier this year when Samsung threw the IR Blaster into the Galaxy S4, we all thought it was a feature no one would use. Well it seems like so many other OEMs are throwing it in their devices as well. With the Galaxy Gear, you can use your smartwatch to control your TV through your Galaxy S4 or Galaxy Note 3. Kind of sounds weird right?

Thanks to Samsung and Peel, who made the WatchON app, there’s now the Smart Remote app. Which means you can control your TV from your wrist. That’s pretty awesome right? Of course, your Galaxy S4 or Galaxy Note 3 will need to be near your TV, since you’re using the IR blaster from that device. With the app, you can change the channel, the volume, mute or turn it on/off. This is definitely going to make things more convenient for everyone.

In order to use Smart Remote, you’ll have to install the app on your Galaxy Gear through the Gear Manager on your Galaxy Note 3 or Galaxy S4. After that, it’s as simple as it could ever be. All you’ll need to do is place your phone in front of your TV and you’re all set to go. It’s pretty darn cool.

We’ve heard mixed numbers about how many Galaxy Gear’s were sold. But I do feel confident in saying that not a whole lot were sold. Certainly a few thousand, maybe even a couple hundred thousand were sold. But that’s the power of Samsung’s marketing. This is a feature that Samsung needs to add into their marketing. I have a feeling more people would buy it for this new feature.
