If you live in Kansas City and are kicking yourself for not signing up for Google Fiber, well you can go sign up now. Google’s giving you a second chance, isn’t Google nice? Google is slowly working to build out a nationwide, high-speed network, where Google is acting as an Internet Service Provider like AT&T, Comcast, Time Warner, or Verizon. Google started Fiber in Kansas City and has since announced it is coming to Austin, TX, and Provo, Utah. Provo is actually already getting it installed, while Austin Texas is getting it soon. So if you missed out on the Kansas City test market or just moved into Kansas City, you can sign up now through December 22nd. If you live in one of those 180 “fiberhoods”.
Remember that Google Fiber is also offering “free internet” which is a 5mbps download and 1mbps upload package, which only costs the initial $300 installation fee. Afterwards it’s free for life. Then theres the Gigabit package which is $70/month and you can get 1 gbps download and 1gbps upload speeds. Google’s is also offering Gigabit Internet and TV which is going to cost you about $120/month. Keep in mind that all these plans also include 1TB of Googel Drive Storage. It’s not known how long you get the 1TB of Google Drive, but I’d assume you get it as long as you keep Google Fiber.
Additionally, Google announced that they will be expanding Google Fiber to a few more cities starting in March 2014. For those in surrounding areas of Kansas City, North, South Kansas City, Mo, Gladstone, Grandview, and Raytown can start signing up in March. If you sign up for Google Fiber, you’ll also receive a Nexus 7 as a “holiday gift” which will be available for pickup from Google’s Fiber space. Keep in mind that this tablet also works as your remote for your TV.
Hopefully Google will speed up the rollout a bit more for Fiber. I’d love to get Fiber here in Detroit, as most of the ISP’s offer pretty sad speeds. How about the rest of you?
