Now that all of the editors on staff have a Nexus 5. We are getting really deep into our Nexus 5 and KitKat coverage. Today, I went outside (and inside) and took quite a bit of pictures with the Nexus 5 to show you how good or bad the camera actually is. The camera is always one of the biggest complaints on the Nexus. Besides battery life, which we’ll get to a bit later this week once we’ve had more time with the device.
The camera on the Nexus 5 is actually pretty good. It’s better than I expected it to be. Now if you compare it to the Galaxy Note 3 or the Galaxy S4 or even the LG G2, it’s not going to outperform those. But then again those also have a 13MP sensor along with a ton of optimization. So that’s kinda expected. In my short time with the Nexus 5, the camera seems to be pretty fast, and adequate. The camera is good, but not great, as you can see in the shots throughout this post.
While I was outside it was pretty cloudy, so some of the shots will reflect that. But overall, they aren’t too bad. The indoor shots were in somewhat low-light. Not in a dark room, but not in a very well-lighted environment. Of course when Tom does his full review, you can expect even more camera samples from him, along with a full in-depth review of the camera. Since he’s our camera guy around here.
So should you buy the Nexus 5 for the camera? No. The camera shouldn’t be the reason why you buy the Nexus 5, the reason should be the price. The quick updates. The Pure Google Experience. The Specs. For $350/400 unlocked, I wouldn’t expect the best camera out there. But for the price, I think we’ve got a pretty decent one. But you be the judge. Let us know in the comments below what you think.
