We just got word from Google, through the Android Building group that the Nexus 7s, Nexus 4 and Nexus 10 are all receiving an OTA. Which has already started. In fact, I’m installing the OTA as I type this post. On the Nexus 7 (2013) it was a small 3.4MB download, so I’m assuming it’ll be about the same size for all the other devices as well. Here’s the full post from Android Building:
The source code for a bugfix build (KRT16S) is being pushed to
kitkat-release and will be tagged as android-4.4_r1.2. This release
is for Android 4.4 KitKat available for Nexus 7
(deb/flo/grouper/tilapia), Nexus 4, and Nexus 10.Additionally, proprietary binaries and factory images will be made
available shortly.
Proprietary binaries: https://developers.google.com/android/nexus/drivers
Factory images: https://developers.google.com/android/nexus/images ~cco3
It appears that the update is pretty small and is pushing out very quickly. but it appears that the update is not available for the Nexus 5. As Google did not say that the Nexus 5 is getting the update, only the Nexus 4, 7, and 10. Which makes you wonder what exactly is it? Well we know it’s not fixing the audio bug on the Nexus 5 since this one isn’t coming to the Nexus 5. But we’ll have to play around with it and see what’s been changed, as they say it’s only a bug fix update. I was hoping we’d get translucent navigation bars and status bars with the KRT16S build, but it appears that we are not.
If you’ve received the update on your Nexus 4, 7 or 10, and notice any changes, feel free to shout them out in the comments down below. We’ll continue to look and see what we can find, but in the meantime, get ready for the Android Headlines Show Episode 38 which will be starting in a few minutes!
