LG Canada: G2 Owners Will Get Android 4.4 – KitKat in Q1 2014

We’ve been seeing Android 4.4 KitKat update plans coming out lately for most of the OEMs. And now it’s LG’s turn. This one is coming from LG Canada who is saying that G2 owners should be able to experience some KitKat love in the first quarter of 2014. That’s still quite a ways away. And kind of surprising that it’s taking them that long since they worked with Google on the Nexus 5 with KitKat.

This report is coming out of MobileSyrupwho has been told by a LG Canada rep, Court Elliot that Canadian G2’s will receive the update in late Q1. So we may see it later or earlier here in the US. There’s no real way to tell right now. It appears that the KitKat update will be available to all Canadian G2 variants at the same time. Which is a good thing. But then again, this also doesn’t guarantee concurrent rollout across all of the operators in Canada.

Right now only the Nexus 4, 5, 7, and 10 are sporting KitKat along with the Moto X variants and now the HTC One Google Play Edition and the Samsung Galaxy S4 Google Play Edition. But we’ve heard from HTC, Sony and Samsung already about their update plans, and most of them seem to be some time in Q1 as well. So we may be seeing all these flagships from 2013 getting Android 4.4 around the same time, which would be pretty crazy.

So we’ll have to wait til Q1 2014, to see more KitKat updates. Hopefully some OEM’s will surprise us and push out the update sooner than that, but I wouldn’t count on it. We usually see updates getting delayed instead of released early. How many of you are anxious to see Android 4.4 – KitKat on your LG G2? How are you liking your G2?
