We thought we smelled something a little fishy when an analyst firm said that LG was no longer going to focus on smartphones and the mobile space as strongly as they have been doing. After all, with devices like the G2, the Nexus 5 and the LG G Pad it’s hard to even think of why LG would want to fade away from the mobile space. Let alone to put more energy into TVs, products that most consumers only buy once every 4 years or so. Needless to say, we were right to be skeptical, as LG has reached out to PhoneArena to put the record straight with the following statement:
“Reports of LG shifting its priorities away from smartphones are completely untrue. This is a rumor based on non-credible sources and uninformed speculation. We are more committed than ever that we will be a major player in the mobile space. But don’t just take our word on this, look at the products we’ve introduced this year as evidence of our commitment and capabilities.”
We’re inclined to agree with LG, all you have to do is take a look at their recent devices, like the G2 which we reviewed and found to be an excellent device. No matter what, LG definitely has a lot to offer consumers these days and there’s no reason why LG should simply take a step back, especially when things can only get better from here on out. With devices like the G Flex hitting the market, it’s clear that LG is interested in pushing the envelope a little further than their rivals Samsung and quite frankly, LG look all but set to succeed HTC’s position at the top of the mobile market.
We’re glad to see LG come out and clear things up too, analysts often like to think they rule the market but, ultimately all they can do is study the past and predict the future. Which is not always very helpful, if at all.
