LG Officially Launches Their First Flexible OLED Device, The LG G Flex in Korea

LG has been in the news a lot lately due to their highly anticipated LG G Flex. Now, the device has been officially launched in Korea. The LG G Flex(G Flex), is one of the first smartphones to be launched with the use of a flexible screen. The way LG has used this technology, is by curving the screen to give what they call an “IMAX” like experience. The curve of the screen is only one of many features of the G Flex that we need to pay attention to, so lets dive in and see what this beautiful device is hiding.

The specs of the device are impressive in their own right and are as follows:

  • 3,500mAh Flexible battery
  • 6-inch Flexible OLED Display
  • 2GB of RAM
  • 13 MP rear camera
  • Quad-Core 2.2 Ghz Snapdragon 800 Processor

All of the awesomeness of the device, is encased in a mildly bendable chassis. The chassis also has a protective self healing coating on the back, that will heal minor scratches and wear and tear on the device by itself. LG launched a video promo showing this feature off, which can be seen here. Just in-case that scratch resistant coating isn’t enough for you, LG also launched two cases with the G Flex. One of which can be seen below, and is pretty much non-existent. The device build looks great on paper, and that is just the beginning, LG has also put some new software capabilities into the G Flex.

The camera has a new face detection software, with two new LED’s which allow for better facial recognition. So faces will be better focused on during the shot you are taking. Also, if you wanted to run two apps at the same time, and actually see what’s going on, LG has you covered there as well. Thats right, they have integrated dual window capabilities into the G Flex, much like the Galaxy Note line.

The lock screen of the G Flex has been updated as well with some live features. In the pictures below provided to us by Webtrek.it, you will see an image of the ocean. Well as you move the device, the water moves as well, and as you unlock the device, the sun rays will move.

At Launch, the G Flex is only available in South Korea with a US dollar price tag of $940 even. Mobile company Orange, has also said they will launch the device in France in February of 2014, no pricing has been announced as of yet. No word on the release of the device in the US, but we can keep our fingers crossed, since we know, its only a matter of time before we get our hands on the G Flex. At least, a device similar to the G Flex would be nice.
