Look out entry-level Android smartphones, a new challenger has entered the arena, and you may have never heard of them before. Oppo, known in China for offering quality smartphones at an affordable price is said to be releasing the Oppo R833T, which will tout mid-range smartphone specs at an entry-level price.
Not relegated to low and mid-range devices, Oppo recently released the first smartphone that comes with the option to install a custom ROM out of the box, the Oppo N1. The Oppo N1 is a beefy device, touting a 1.7 GHz Snapdragon 600, 2 GB of RAM and a 5.9-inch 1080p HD IPS display. Users can opt to install CyanogenMod on the N1 instead of Oppo’s Color OS.
The R833T is rumored to be touting a 4.3″ WVGA screen with a 480 x 800 resolution, a quad-core 1.3 GHz processor, 1 GB of RAM, 4 GB of internal storage and front and rear-facing cameras with as of yet unknown resolution. The device will run Oppo’s Color OS 1.0, which adds some gesture controls and customized apps to the mix.
Release plans have not yet been revealed, but as is normal for Oppo devices, the RT833T will more than likely go on sale first in China making its way across the globe shortly thereafter. We can count on the RT833T to be butting heads against Motorola’s recently released Moto G.
There is no doubt that emerging markets are the future for handset manufacturers, as the recent release of the Moto G shows. The Oppo RT833T is no showstopper, and Oppo knows it. The device is designed to be an affordable yet powerful device for emerging markets and first-time smartphone buyers. With a price point on par with the Moto G, the Oppo RT833T may just find itself between a rock and a hard place, especially considering the customization options that the Moto G offers. The Moto G is essentially a stripped down version of the Moto X, lacking LTE capabilities, and rocking a 1.2Ghz quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 400, 1GB RAM and comes in at a price of $179 off-contract. The Moto G is Google and Motorola’s effort to dip it’s toe into emerging markets, which are currently dominated by the likes of Oppo, Samsung, ZTE and others.
We can’t wait to see what the Oppo RT833T is officially touting, and how it will fare against the colorful Moto G. We will keep you updated as details emerge.
