You know that Android-powered Gaming Console, OUYA? Yeah, well they are announcing a new white edition of the console today. It’s a special edition that is on sale for $129.99. That’s about $30 more than the original is. However, the new OUYA doubles the internal flash storage for the base model to about 16GB. Of course, the actual usable storage will be less, probably around 11-12GB. The new white edition is available now from OUYA under Pre-order. It’s only in the North America at this time though.
I’m not sure too many people will buy the new white version of the OUYA. Although OUYA does have about 500 games that are optimized for the console now. Of course, that number is growing everyday. However, of those 500+ games for the OUYA, very few of them are actually exclusive to the OUYA. Towerfall is currently an exclusive, but it’s coming to other platforms really soon. So that exclusivity is about to be gone.
We haven’t yet done a review of the OUYA, but there is one in the house. So we should have a review done very soon for it. From what I can gather, it’s a pretty good first generation device. Which raises my expectations for the next generation OUYA and other Android-powered consoles like the M.O.J.O. that Mad Catz will be releasing later this year.
For those unfamiliar, the OUYA sports a Tegra 3 processor, 1GB of RAM, 16GB of internal storage, a USB 2.0 port, WiFi Connectivity, and HDMI output. Of course it’s running on Android as well. As far as the dimensions goes it’s 75mm x 75mm x 82mm. Which isn’t too big for a console, but it’s definitely not small either.
