Rom developers are hard at work getting together all the goodies and working bits to produce a new Kit Kat based Rom, and the Paranoid Android Team is no exception here. PA is most famous for one of their more recent features called HALO which is a lot like Facebook chat bubbles, but basically for any app on your device. In this newest Rom(PA 4.0) they show us how they integrate a couple of features called quick settings and immersive mode.
In PA 4.0, quick settings is accessible from the status bar which is what most of us are used to, the great thing about it here compared to a stock quick settings menu is that PA’s version is customizable. So you can flip around and swap out different tiles in the quick settings it seems to tailor it to your liking. While quick settings is something we’ve had since the nexus 4, its this particular feature to make custom quick settings menus that is captivating. PA demos the quick settings menu for us in the video we have here and shows off their dedication to providing a great ROM experience.http://youtu.be/gvJI_bDJyOE
The other feature they are working on for their newest ROM is immersive mode. This is once again not a new feature, but its the fact that PA is working it into their ROM and that they aren’t limiting where immersive mode works hat grabs the attention. Just like their HALO feature, it seems that immersive mode is going to be system wide, so we can expect to get full use out of our displays no matter what we are doing. Immersive mode for those of you that don’t already know, makes your nav bar and status bar disappear. This already happens with some things we do now, but transforming this into a system wide usability is huge. In stock Kit Kat, the nav bar and status bar are transparent, so even when you’re just on the homescreen and the bars are visible, they’re barely visible. This is a nice touch to clean up and streamline the look of Android, and we can expect to see this in PA 4.0 as well.
We always look forward to seeing the latest and greatest from developers out there, and PA has always had some interesting tweaks to throw into the mix. So, what were all thinking is when can we get our hands on Paranoid Android 4.0 and test out these features for ourselves? well, there’s no word from the PA team on that just yet, but chances are it won’t be very far away.
