Philips, long known for their TV’s and low-end audio equipment, has been all but off the Android radar for almost a year, even after talk from them about producing an Android tablet. Well, our Hungarian friends at Tech2, shared a leak that we will now share with you concerning a low-range type of tablet; perfect for those emerging markets that everybody is trying to get a piece of. The high-end field is rough to break into, as well as lower profits, so the trend today is to grab that 100’s of million customers that crave electronics, but simply cannot afford the higher price tags.
The Philips Amio 30 is definitely seeking this type of customer, however, for the specifications, it still seems overpriced even at US$135 – even the website says, “the hardware is even slightly out of date.” The display is 7-inches with only a 1024 x 600 pixel resolution, and most likely, a LCD display. The processor is listed as a dual-core, running at 1.5GHz, but no manufacturer is known at this time. On a high note, it does have 1GB of RAM and 8GB of internal storage and is expandable with a microSD card – not bad for a tablet with these specs, as is the 3000mAh battery a welcomed site. It is running Android 4.1 Jelly Bean at this time.
This side shot of the Philips Amio 30 tablet allows you to see the microSD card slot for your expandable memory, a micro USB port for data transfer and possible charging, a micro HDMI port to transfer images to that big screen TV, and a earphone and microphone jack round out the details.
Ths Amio 30 is approximately 1cm thick and the casing comes only in a pleasant white and blue combination. One additional highlight is in the sound that Philips has included on board – FullSound technology, which improves the sound of compressed MP3 files through digital signal processing. It is slated for a European appearance for 100 Euros, but we do not know if it will ever see the shores of the U.S. Let us know in the comments or on Google+ if you would like to see the Philips Amio 30 come to a town near you.
