How many of you read the title of this post and thought hell froze over? I actually thought it froze over earlier when Verizon was the first one to roll out KitKat to the Moto X. But now there’s some surprising news coming from Nintendo today. Or at least it’s a report from a Nintendo Software Engineer. The Engineer is Nando Monterazo, who spoke about this Android tablet over on Twitter earlier today. He says he’s current;y testing the “communication environment” of educational games kids will be playing on the new Nintendo tablet.
So what kind of tablet are we expecting? Well nothing that will compete with the Nexus 7 or Galaxy Tab 3 line. But more of an educational tablet for kids. The big question here is, how many would they sell? Sure they have the brand recognition. I mean if you saw an Android tablet at Walmart or Bestbuy by Nintendo, wouldn’t that grab your attention? Heck it would probably be an impulse buy for me. But what I’m really wondering is, if some of their games that are familiar on other Nintendo consoles would work on this Nintendo tablet? Now I think that would be a killer feature for the Nintendo tablet.
At this point, I don’t think it’ll be available for this holiday season, and I kind of expect it to be announced in 2014, possibly later. But it’s definitely something interesting that we’ll have to keep our eyes out for. Maybe next they’ll build an Android-powered console to compete with the OUYA? Or Mad Catz’ M.O.J.O. console which is due to launch soon. How many of you would be interested in picking up the Nintendo tablet for yourself or even your own kids?
