Who says it’s too early to start hype beasting the next phone? According to Android Beat, Samsung is supposedly working on 2560×1440 resolution displays that will pack as many pixels into your smartphone display as Apple has on the new Macbook Pro. That’s pretty crazy. Samsung told their audience at the 2013 Analyst Day that it plans on shipping 4k displays in their phones by 2015. That’s less than 2 years away, and we’re just starting to get used to 1080p displays. Could you imagine a 4k display on your Nexus 5 or Galaxy Note 3?
Can’t really say I’m surprised though. If you look back at previous flagships from the past two years, we saw the Galaxy S2 arrive with a 4.5-inch 480×800 resolution display, then the Galaxy S3 with a 4.8-inch 1280×720 resolution display and this year the Galaxy S4 with a 5-inch 1920×1080 resolution display. So it only makes sense to see 4k coming in 2015, on the Galaxy S6. But back to the Galaxy S5. Just to give you an idea of what a 2560×1440 resolution display is like, the Nexus 10 and Galaxy Note 10.1 – 2014 Edition are both running displays that are 2560×1600. And the Chromebook Pixel has a 2560×1700 resolution display. Those displays are pretty amazing already, and they are about twice the size of what the Galaxy S5 will probably be.
So next year, Samsung is supposedly going to unleash their Exynos 6 chip, which will be a 64-bit chip. Along with a 2560×1440 resolution display on the Galaxy S5. Man that’s crazy. The screen on my laptop doesn’t even have that high of a resolution. What the interesting thing here is, I wonder if the Exynos 6 will be able to push all of those pixels? The Exynos 5 Octa has been having trouble on the Note 10.1 pushing all the pixels on the 2560×1600 resolution display. So I’m hoping they fix that up with the Exynos 6 come next year.
