Shopping Online Gets Social With New Android App, Poshmark

If you are like me, your closet probably resembles that of a small boutique – filled with clothing, shoes and accessories of all sizes, styles and colors. For most woman, parting with even one piece of your collection is often a chore. The Android application, “Poshmark” will help take the work out of cleaning your closet, and put some fun back into it. The application takes second-hand to a new level by allowing you to sell, or trade, your unwanted wardrobe items and replace them with a fresh new look at lower-than-retail prices. With Poshmark, you can connect directly with your friend’s, and other fashionistas’ wardrobe, picking and choosing the items that best fit your personality.

For those of you who can’t afford to shop at the mall, but can’t help but cling to expensive brands such as BCBG and J. Crew, this application is a must have. There is no need to rummage through thrift store racks, hoping to find brand named clothing within your budget. Instead, you will be able to sit back and relax within the comfort of your own home while you rummage through Pinterest-like photos until an item for sale catches your eye. To get you started, Poshmark will give you a recommended shopping list, so to speak, based on your indicated dress, pants, sweater and shoe size. If you fancy a particular sellers closet, you can choose to follow that person so you will always know when a new item hits the rack.

When you need to make space in your closet for your new purchases, Poshmark can help. Photos can be taken of each item for sale through its in-app camera. The camera also allows you to add your own personal flair to each photo with in-app filters. Similar to attending candle and makeup parties, sellers can host their own Posh Party where others can shop while making social connections during your designated time. Unlike selling on eBay, Poshmark lets you sale your items for free; you don’t even pay shipping costs. Once an item is sold, Poshmark will send you a pre-paid pre-addressed USPS shipping label. It is then your responsibility to package and ship the item. Earnings are deposited into your user account, which you can use to either purchase other items, or request a check or checking account deposit at any time. There is of course a catch: In exchange for helping you clear your closet, Poshmark will deduct a 20 percent commission from each sale.
