As a student, ramen noodles and discounts are how they usually survive, having the best of anything is a dream we work towards while in class. Sprint and Best Buy want to help students towards that dream. The two companies have come together and are offering students, of any kind, 12 months free service.
The plans that are being offered are part of Sprint’s My Way Plan, and will include unlimited talk and text. The data portion of the plan is where things get a little messy. As part of the plan, 1GB of data will be included, but when you go over that 1GB included data, the student will pay 1.5 cents for every MB of data. This can be avoided by adding unlimited data to the student plan, for an extra $10 every month. Still not a bad deal, given the amount of discount you will get monthly as a student.
In order to be eligible for this My Way Student Plan, you will need to be actively enrolled in any approved institution. The schools that are approved are any and all from elementary schools all the way to colleges in the US. Which is different than most students discounts, and will allow parents to give their children lines and take advantage of these discounts as well. There is a validation process that you must go through, and complete within 14 days of activating the line. Activation must take place in a Best Buy at the same time you purchase the device and line as well. The proof that you are a student must either be submitted online or faxed to Sprint and the offer will be ending January 1st 2014, so you must be ready to send the proper info and get approved before then. There is another great part of this deal, but it does come with some caveats.
If 12 months isn’t long enough, you can get an additional 12 months with the same guidelines as the original offer. In order to get another 12 months of free service though, you need to refer another student to the same My Way, My All In, or Unlimited Plan from sprint. Which is where the caveats are hidden. The additional line must be added as a new line to the original account, and must be done before the end of the offer period, which is January 1st 2014. The line added to the account, is the line solely responsible for the additional 12 months, and only shares the “free” aspects of the service. So if you have added unlimited data to your line, it will not automatically add to the other. Also, being that the second line is solely responsible for the additional 12 months free service, that means if that line cancels, than with it go any additional months free service at time of termination.
Now that all that is out of the way, this may help those students buy some more ramen noodles to survive on for the next 12 months. Just be wary about adding lines to get more free months out of the deal, that may get messy.
