For those that haven’t heard of Ting before, they are a MVNO that runs off of the Sprint network. I know what you’re thinking “Sprint sucks”, etc. Well Sprint may not be the best carrier in your area, but it is in some areas. And the good thing about Ting, is you can try out Sprint’s network for a month and see how good or bad it really is before signing your life away for 2 years. Which sounds like a good deal to me.
On Ting’s blog, they announced that they are supporting the Nexus 5. Which isn’t really all that surprising, since they do run on Sprint’s network and Sprint supports the Nexus 5. Basically all you have to do is order your Nexus 5, which you can order the one from Google Play. It should work on both Ting and Sprint “right out of the box”. I had to put that in quotes, because I believe Sprint was having some issues last week. You’ll also need your Ting SIM card, then just follow the instructions in this support article from Ting. It’s actually quite simple, surprisingly.
Ting has said that they are very surprised about the excitement surrounding the Nexus 5. I guess they haven’t spent much time in the Android world, because that definitely shouldn’t be surprising. Especially after seeing what about a thousand leaks for the Nexus 5, before release. Either way it’s great to see the Nexus 5 available on yet another carrier. Even if it is just a MVNO of Sprint.
What I like about Ting is that their rates are flexible. Sure you can’t get unlimited data, but you can pay as little as $6/month for the device. For minutes you can choose up to 3000, texts can go up to 6000, and data can go up to about 3GB. You can also change your plan during the month. So if you know you’re going to be home most of the month, you can switch to a smaller data plan, or if you know you’re travelling or don’t have any WiFi for a few days, you can choose a larger amount of data. It’s a really great idea Ting has here. And I’d like to see other MVNOs do the same.
How many of you are going to head over to Ting with your Nexus 5? Let us know in the comments below.
