When WatchESPN hit the market back in May 2011, sports fans were all excited – ESPN means the real deal in sports – well, we are happy to report that with the newest release in Google Play, the fans really have something to cheer about now! The new version is a complete redesign/overhaul starting with the main screen, with lists and tabs to choose between live TV or other on-demand programs.
The free WatchESPN app lets you follow your favorite sports teams anywhere you and your Android device, smartphone or tablet, are located. Watch live games and studio shows, with 24/7 access to ESPN, ESPN2, ESPN3, ESPNU, ESPNews, and ESPN Deportes, as well as on-demand clips of highlights or the latest breaking news. Access to live streaming video for the ESPN – ESPN Deportes choices are determined by your individual TV provider – please check back, because new providers are regularly added. The ones listed below, right from the Play Store, offer access to WatchESPN live video:
- AT&T U-verse
- Bright House Networks
- Charter
- Comcast XFINITY
- Cox
- Google Fiber
- Midcontinent Communications
- Optimum
- Time Warner Cable
- Verizon FiOS TV
The new WatchESPN app offers live streaming to thousands of games and events show on ESPN networks, including:
- Monday Night Football (tablets only)
- NBA Regular Season and Playoffs
- Major League Baseball
- The Masters, U.S. Open and The Open Championship
- College Football and Basketball
- All four Grand Slam tennis events
As well as up-to-the-minute news, highlights, and analysis with live streaming of your favorite ESPN studio shows, including:
- SportsCenter
- PTI
- College GameDay
- Mike & Mike
- SportsNation
- Baseball Tonight
The WatchESPN app will work on both your Android smartphone or tablet, but the screens and layout are very similar, with the tablet just spreading out the menus more so than the smartphone.
I am not a huge sports fan and my little ESPN Sports Center (SC) app works great for me to catch up on my favorite teams, but if you subscribe to one of the above cable packages and like to watch live sports on your device, then this revamped WatchESPN app will satisfy your need for ESPN Sports 24/7, whether its a live broadcast of a game or event, or if you simply want to catch your favorite ESPN Studio Shows. Let us know in the comments or on Google+ if you have used the old version and how it compares to the newest app.
