Sony has been working hard on its Android Smartphone line up in the recent years; the Xperia Z, Z Ultra and Z1 (not to mention its Xperia Tablet lineup) are impressive forays into the Mobile Tech market, and while few of them are available in the States, its hard to ignore the quality and diligence about Sony’s work. In fact, it was even one of the first companies to announce that its recent devices would be receiving Android 4.4.
Today, the newest part of the family, The Xperia Z1S, was leaked again, as GSM Arena is reporting. This time, however, in a shot right next to its older brother, the Xperia Z1. Earlier this week, we published an article with a whole bunch of photos of the Xperia Z1S, which had apparently leaked to someone in Russia. There were several shots of it, all with a ruler giving us a good estimate of its parameters. But if you’re not gifted with the ability to comprehend measurements like that in a realistic way (you’re not alone), the new picture that’s above should give you a rough estimate of what it will look like. The Xperia Z has a five inch display, which is almost big enough to encompass the entire Z1s. Despite its size, the specs that we currently have for this device imply quite the powerhouse of a phone
Here’s the full spec list:
- 4.3-inch 720p Triluminos screen
- 2.2GHz Snapdragon 800 Quad-core processor
- IP58-grade water resistant design
- 2,300 mAh battery
- 20.7 megapixel rear-facing camera with Sony G Lens
- 127 x 64.9mm
A 720p resolution on a 4.3 inch screen should produce an extremely sharp pixel density if its done right (which Sony’s not known for doing), and what’s even more impressive would be that 2.2GHz Snapdragon 800 Quad-core Processor. With a processor like that, squeezed into such a small body, it’s no wonder that the battery is only 2,300mAh. However, the 800 is known for its power ‘sipping’ — as in, it is extremely power efficient.
The only screenshot we have of the ‘About Phone’ section is settings is in Russian, unfortunately, but we can clearly make out that the Android Version is 4.3. Since Sony promised the Z1 and Z Ultra to jump right to Android 4.4, we can only hope that this is what they’re using as a test build — or at the very least, will upgrade the Z1S very quickly.
Hopefully this phone will come to the states to compete against the smaller smartphone market, which is undoubtedly dominated by Apple’s iPhone, and other smaller handsets like the Motorola Razr M and Razr Mini. We can also expect to see it going to head-to-head with HTC’s One Mini, as well as the Moto X. Stay tuned for more!
