For the Best Entertainment App we tapped two completely different types – one is dedicated to learning and the other app is dedicated for fun. Both apps have been downloaded over 5,000,000 (as in millions, and I used the zeros just to make an impression) times and are very popular. Both apps are colorful, have a lot options, and screens galore, so you certainly get your money’s worth – they are FREE!
Runner Up – Pianist HD – Finger Tap Piano
If you are interested in learning how to play the piano by yourself on either your Android smartphone or tablet, you cannot do much better than Pianist HD. It has close to 43,000 reviews with an average rating of 4.6 out of 5.0 and 48,468 Google+s, making this a much-loved application. The application already has many built-in songs to learn and play, however, you can load any MIDI files you like and learn/play those as well. You can choose from many instruments, a recording function, and save and share your creations from Cloud services. The app uses a finger-by-finger teaching mode and has no pop-up ads, no status bar ads, or hidden ads. They also throw in a “Kid” mode so that you and your child can simply have fun together.
Winner – Bitstrips
Yes, we know our winning app only has a 4.0 rating, but it has over 10 million downloads, 152,594 reviews, and 119,246 Google+s, making this a crowd favorite, and besides, it is simply entertaining! Everybody likes comics – we all have our favorites – well, how about designing cartoon versions of yourself, family, or friends. Take those characters, place them in hilarious comics, and then instantly share those comics with others. There are over 1500 customizable scenes and new ones updated on a daily basis.
Just updated on December 2, the app had some bug fixes, improved performance, and assigned categories to the thumbnails when browsing the available comics. You can edit avatars after you’ve designed them, and delete comics after sharing. You can also share comics directly with your Bitstrips’ friends without having to post on Facebook…a very nice feature…however, I have seen more and more of these on Facebook, and I must say that they are quite funny and enjoyable – it is amazing how much the cartoon characters look like “their person.”
Ok, this is not educational like the Runner-up, Pianist HD, but it is just plain fun, clever, and adds a smile to whomever reads it – and isn’t that what an “Entertainment” app is all about? Let us know in the comments or on Google+ what you think of our selection, do you use either one of these apps, and what you think of them.
