AH Awards 2013: Best Full-Sized Android Tablet Of the Year

In the world of Android tablets this year, we’ve seen tablets of all sizes hit the market but, we can all agree that the most common large form-factor is the 10.1-inch size that started off back in the Honeycomb days. This year saw only a few really good 10-inch tablets come from manufacturers, with a new Nexus 10 still completely absent. All hope wasn’t lost however, as we saw the return of one of the best tablet manufacturers and a brilliant addition to an already popular flagship line. 10-inch tablets are great for games and watching movies and such but, at that size we expect to be able to get something done with them. This year’s winner and runner-up allow you to be productive on the go and both are flexible options.

Runner-Up: ASUS Transformer TF701

This year, we saw the return of ASUS to the Android tablet game and what a return it was. Understated yet, it was pretty much everything people were looking for; the Transformer formula updated to the latest specs. With a 10.1-inch 2560 x 1600, Tegra 4 CPU and of course the same keyboard dock that made the Transformer so great, the TF701 is one brilliant tablet. Where it falls down however, is by just being a little plain, a little boring perhaps. Now, we’re not ragging on the TF701 – otherwise it wouldn’t be here – but, it’s hardly the most exciting Android tablet out there. If all you’re looking for is a tablet that’s fast, flexible and reliable then this is one of the best choices out there.

Buy the ASUS Transformer TF701 from Amazon.

Winner: Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 – 2014 Edition

For the most part, Samsung’s tablet offerings this year have been pretty poor but, the Note 10.1 – 2014 Edition changes all that, even if it does have a silly name. For a lot of users, the S-Pen makes a lot more sense on a tablet and thanks to the pretty comprehensive suite of apps that Samsung have included, getting stuff done on the go with the Note 10.1 is really pretty easy. It’s great for taking notes and thanks to the vibrant display and apps such as Photoshop Touch, you can even get some pretty serious creative work done. It’s certainly not perfect, the physical home button is a particularly bizarre addition but, it’s the best 10.1-inch Android tablet out there right now, offering features that none other can compete with.

You can buy the Galaxy Note 10.1 – 204 Edition from Amazon.
