Android 4.4.1 Comes With Some New Features And Bug Fixes

Kit Kat official was barely pushed out to a small list of devices other than the Nexus 5 not even a month ago and we already have the 4.4.1 update. As always, there are some bug fixes (a lot of small ones as it turns out) to smooth out the rough edges, but it also comes with a list of new features and some UI tweaks as well that should more than put a smile on the faces of Nexus users. Here’s what’s new with the new update.

So far, one of the bigger changes or fixes that people will notice is that the camera on the nexus 5 has gotten faster, so it should work smoother and at a quicker pace. Remember the audio bugs that we wrote about last week? Well this update is supposed to help fix those audio issues. So if you or someone you know has been suffering from that particular problem on your nexus 5, this should make you happy. The haptic feedback has also been tweaked on the Nexus 5, so responsiveness has apparently been improved. One of the major changes in the original 4.4 update was ART runtime, and in 4.4.1 there are some bug fixes to this runtime option that allows Whatsapp to work in ART. So if you’re a Whatsapp user, go ahead and switch back to ART now.

If you use the default email client app, you may have noticed a bug that was causing it not to sync or play nice with exchange servers. That’s a bug that was squashed with this update. The immersive mode break bug during volume adjustment has been fixed, so you can enjoy whatever it is you’re doing without fear of coming out of immersive, even if you accidentally left the sound too low to hear. The new photos app has been updated to be the new gallery app, so you should no longer see two redundant apps that do basically the same thing.

There’s been some minor benchmark performance boosts for the Nexus 5 as well, which should ultimately speed your device up. The transparent status bar opacity bug has been fixed, as well as the nav bar on the Nexus 4 lockscreen which is now transparent. The settings button in quick settings has been switched out to something else, and the miracast settings has been renamed to simply “cast”. So far that’s all we have noticed in the update, if you have spotted something that we haven’t and don’t have listed here, throw it up in the comments on our G+ post.
