This really shouldn’t be surprising, but with Android 4.4 – KitKat’s release, we’ve been seeing tons of bugs. The Nexus 4 had a ton of bugs, in fact some people couldn’t even update. Others are experiencing poor battery life (how could they tell though?), download issues and plenty of other issues. Normally with a new release of Android, some things get broken. That we kind of expect, but what we don’t expect is Google to ignore these issues.
Google rolled out two more KitKat updates in the past week. Android 4.4.1 and 4.4.2. Android 4.4.1 was primarily for the Nexus 5 camera. Although there were some other fixes in there as well. It appears that many issues people were having still have yet to be solved in Android 4.4.2. In fact, there’s a thread over on Google’s Product Forums about the Android 4.4.2 update having errors. It seems like a lot of Nexus 4 owners aren’t even able to update to Android 4.4.2. Which I saw that issue with the Android 4.4 update as well. Google also hasn’t offered any type of remedy or explanation on their forums, or even in that particular thread. Which leave users wondering what’s going on.
As we stated already, Android 4.4.1 was centered around the Nexus 5’s camera, although some other bugs were fixed as well, which we talked about in our changelog here. One of the big bugs is the fact that Whatsapp now works on ART in Android 4.4.1. Then just a few days later, Google pushed out Android 4.4.2, which is only a 1.7MB update over Android 4.4.1, so that was obviously a bug fix update. But where’s the fixes for the rest of these bugs? There’s still plenty of bugs left for Google to fix, and hopefully they’ll fix them in Android 4.4.3, which I’m hoping comes sooner rather than later.
All the battery drains, Media storage issues, incoming call issues and plenty more are still wandering around various Nexus devices. Although it appears that none of these bugs are on the Nexus 5 (I wonder why?). Hopefully Google will step up and fix these ASAP, as it may cause less and less people to buy another Nexus or worse, another Android device.
