We’ve been waiting for a long time for this. We learned at the Moto X launch back in August that Motorola would have a variety of wood backs for the Moto X available later this year. As understandably, they have to do all kinds of testing to make sure the wood backs will work well. We learned during Motorola CEO Dennis Woodside’s interview with Marquez Brownlee a couple weeks ago that the wood backs are coming soon. Now we see the Bamboo option popping up on MotoMaker. However it’s not really there. It’s slated as “coming soon” unfortunately. It also says that it’s an online exclusive. But isn’t all the other colors online exclusives too? Since you can’t just walk into an AT&T, T-Mobile, Sprint or Verizon store and pick the colors you want and get your Moto X the same day.
Motorola has also said and shown off a few other types of wood they are going to offer for the Moto X. It looks like the Bamboo will be the first one. Hopefully we see more soon. We did see that the Bamboo and other wood types would cost us about $50 more. Which is understandable since they probably cost more to make than the standard plastic colored backs.
This means we should see Bamboo go live on MotoMaker within the next few days. As always, we’ll be keeping you up-to-date with what happens with the Bamboo Moto X. I really wish these were available during the Cyber Monday sale, but then again this might be a good thing, since they were already bombarded with a ton of orders.
How many of you out there want to get your hands on a Moto X with a Bamboo back? I know I’m one of them, but I’ll have to settle for my navy blue and yellow Moto X, which still looks really nice I might add.
Update: As soon as I hit publish, the Bamboo back was made available! It’ll cost you $100 extra and there’s delayed shipping on the Bamboo version.
