You know, I thought the rest of the year would be pretty quiet. But LG decided they had to announce a few products this week, like the LG Gx yesterday, and today the LG Chromebase. The LG Chromebase is their 21-inch All-In-One desktop that runs Chrome OS. It actually looks really nice, and I’d love to see Chrome OS on a desktop that size.
As far as the specs go LG has given the Chromebase a 1920×1080 IPS display, along with a 16GB SSD drive, 2GB of RAM and an Intel Celeron CPU. I’m guessing it’s the same one found in the Acer C720 Chromebook line. Although no specifics are available just yet. It’ll also have a HDMI-in, 3 USB 2.0 ports, a USB 3.0 port and a LAN port. It also comes with a keyboard, mouse, and a cable organizer as well as a 1.3MP camera on the front. LG is going to be showing this off at CES in a couple weeks in Las Vegas.
It appears that LG is looking to really push this product in 2014, here’s what LG’s head of the business division had to say about the Chromebase:
“Simple to operate for all types of users, the award-winning LG Chromebase computer represents the successful combination of simplicity, power and great design. LG Chromebase is the wave of the future for desktops, expected to be widely adopted not only at home, but especially in schools, hotels, call centers and other business settings.”
As usual with announcements like this, there was no release date or pricing announced. But I’d expect this to be around $400-450. As far as a release date goes, I hope it’s sooner rather than later. I’m excited to see more Chrome OS desktops out there. We really haven’t seen one since Samsung’s Chromebox which came out about a year or so ago. It’ll be shown off at CES next month in Las Vegas, so we should hear more about the Chromebase then.
