Just yesterday, Google started to push out the XE12 update to Google Glass. Which is their monthly update for their wearable. However, the updates didn’t end there. Yesterday’s update brought along quite a few new features, including the ability to wink to take a picture. Our own Glass Explorer, Keith, detailed the update yesterday, which you can read here.
However today, Google decided to put a bunch of new apps (called Glassware on Google Glass) into the MyGlass Glassware page. It’s great to see even more apps available. However, MyGlass isn’t the only way to put apps onto your Glass, you can also go ahead and sideload the apps, since this is still running on Android (Ice Cream Sandwich to be exact). But as always, there could be bugs and such, so we prefer doing it through MyGlass.
Here are the apps that are now available. There’s the Wall Street Journal, so now you can go ahead and read about the breaking news, politics, business, and just about everything else you love about Google Glass. Next up is Weather Alert. So you can stay informed and alerted about several weather of over 120 types, which is also customizable. There’s also Winkfeed, which is a RSS feed app that brings news right in front of your eyes. You can choose your feeds and Glass delivers. You can also save to pocket, which is amazing. There’s also Upload to YouTube. This was part of the XE12 announcement yesterday, but now you can upload private and public videos recorded through Glass straight to YouTube. Finally, Hangouts is now available. Alongside the Upload to YouTube app, this was also covered in yesterday’s announcement. You can now reply to Hangouts messages without starting a video call. Group messaging is also supported.
It’s great to see more apps coming to Glass, and I can’t wait to see what else makes its way over. Hopefully we see a ton of new apps popping up in the next few months as more and more people get their hands on Glass.
