The world of Smart TVs has seemed to slow down, especially with the releases of separate boxes that can plug-in and do the same thing for cheaper. We also have the Chromecast, which is an extremely cheap alternative. The only problem with the Chromecast option, is that it is moving along slowly with its capabilities. Though that is expected to change soon. Enter Hisense H6 Smart TV.
The H6 is a Smart TV running Google Services, but Hisense didn’t stop there. They are also releasing a set-top box also running Google Services. Lets start with the TV specs and software before we head on over to the set-top box.
The H6 is running Android 4.2.2, a little behind but still a great alternative to the earlier Google powered TV released by LG. The H6 features a 120Hz panel, 1GB Ram and 8GB of onboard storage. Powering this “device” is a Marvell Armada 1500 Plus HD Media Processor. The TV will be available in a few different sizes ranging from 40 inches to 55 inches. The remote included with the H6 only has 30 keys, and will have “air mouse” capabilities, as well as a microphone for those who want to voice search instead of manually search. The remote is included with the H6, as well as with the set-top box being dubbed the Pulse Pro.
The Pulse Pro is an alternative to the H6, also running Android. Though the way to use it is a bit different from the television. The Pulse Pro plugs into the television you already have. Apps already on-board the Pulse Pro include Netflix, Youtube, Vudu, Chrome Browser, Amazon Instant Movies, and the Play Store. Pulse Pro comes with 1GB RAM and 4GB onboard storage, as well as the Marvell BG2-CT Board powering the whole show. The set-top box, also has voice search capabilities, and if it looks anything likes it predecessor, it will resemble the Roku.
If you are interested in buying either one of these options, availability is still TBD as well as pricing. Hisense also didn’t release any pictures along with the press release, but more information is sure to be on its way. So now the obvious question is, would you rather buy a Google powered Smart Tv, or just get the Chromecast and wait for developers to unlock more possibilities with it?
