Last year at CES in Las Vegas, Huawei showed off their very large Ascend Mate. It had a 6.1-inch display, along with their own processor, and a 720p display. Now it looks like Huawei is heading back to Vegas in a few weeks to show off the next generation of the Ascend Mate. Although it won’t be available in the US as they’ve withdrawn from the market here, unfortunately.
The Huawei Ascend Mate 2 has already leaked previously, and gave us a good idea of what kind of specs to expect. Which is their 1.6GHz quad-core Cortex A9 processor along with the Mali-450 GPU and 2GB of RAM. It’s also expected to have a 6.1-inch 1080p display. It’s also expected to be available in two models when it launches in China first which would be the MT2-C00 which is both CDMA and GSM for China Telecom, and the MT2-U071 which is WCDMA and GSM for China Unicom.
Of course, it looks like the Ascend Mate 2 isn’t the only device Huawei is looking to announce soon. There was also a leaked invitation showing Huawei is unveiling their true octa-core smartphone, the Honor 4 on December 14th. The Honor 4 is also a phablet but it’s only a 5.5-inch 720p display instead of the crazy 6.1-inch size. It will also run the MT6592 chipset from Mediatek, which has eight Cortex-A7 cores and Mali-450 Graphics.
There’s also the rumored Ascend P6S, which I reviewed the Ascend P6 earlier this year and was quite impressed with that device. So it looks like Huawei has quite a few new phones coming out really soon. Although we’ll never see them here in the US, which is quite sad, as they do look like nice phones. Oh well, at least we’ll have some new stuff from Sony at CES, although they aren’t focusing on the US either.
