Earlier this morning, we brought to your attention that the LG G Pad 8.3 would get the Google Play Edition treatment, and well now it’s official. The LG G Pad 8.3 GPe is featuring the 8.3-inch 1080p IPS display (should be the same one on the G2), along with the Qualcomm Snapdragon 600 quad-core 1.7GHz processor, 2GB of RAM, 5MP camera on the back, 1.3MP on the front. It’s going to weigh about 338g, and will be about 216.8 x 126.5 x 8.3mm in size. Not bad for a 8-inch tablet.
Of course it is featuring Android 4.4 – KitKat on board. Although as you can tell in the image above, it does not have the Google Experience launcher that’s on the Nexus 5, unfortunately. However it will ship within 1-2 business days, at least that’s what Google Play is quoting at the time of writing this post. They are offering free ground shipping as well, all for $349.
We’ve been hearing rumors of the LG G Pad 8.3 being turned into a Nexus 8, then this morning we heard it was going to be a Google Play Edition device. And well now it’s official. I’m actually happy to see it become a Google Play Edition device instead of a Nexus, since I think a Nexus 8 would cannibalize the sales on the Nexus 7. However that’s just my opinion. The LG G Pad 8.3 has gotten great reviews, although we haven’t reviewed it yet. If it’s anything like the LG G2, then it’s an amazing device.
Since it is a Google Play Edition device, you will be getting updates shortly after the Nexus family. Which is a great thing. Usually within a week or two after the Nexus devices finish their OTAs. Of course the LG G Pad 8.3 isn’t the only new device launching on the Play Store today. There’s a new white Nexus 7, as well as the Sony Xperia Z Ultra Google Play Edition. How many of you are going to be picking one of these up?
