LG G2 Getting Android 4.4 KitKat in Korea Today

Here’s a nice Christmas gift from LG. Those in LG’s homeland of Korea, are getting a nice update on the G2 today. It’s Android 4.4 KitKat. Those that were saying that LG never updates their devices, well here is KitKat. Sure it might only be in Korea, but they have gotten it out there before their rival, Samsung. So that’s a pretty big accomplishment in my opinion. The update is about 637.39MB in size, which is about where I thought it would be. The report, coming out of Korea, doesn’t tell us exactly how the OTA is rolling out. But it is beginning it’s rollout today. Which is great news. I’d suspect that it’ll hit the other regions within the next month or so.

LG has already said that they will be updating the G2 by the end of Q1 2014. Now here in the US, with the carriers needing to certify the updates, it may take a bit longer than that. Although we are hoping it won’t. It’d really be nice to see all the flagships get their KitKat update by the end of Q1. That would be less than 6 months for all the carriers to update their flagships. Which is pretty much unheard of on Android. Of course, it can still be done better. It’s also been done worse in the past.

Right now, the LG G2 is one of the most powerful phones available. It’s got that Snapdragon 800 processor along with 2GB of RAM. Which makes it a beast. It also has a beautiful 1080p IPS+ display. It was our choice for phone of the year, and rightfully so. The LG G2 is definitely a good device. And I’d love to see how well KitKat will run on this device. Hopefully we’ll find out very soon, as Koreans are finding out today.

How many of you are anxious to get Android 4.4 on your LG G2?
