The year may be drawing to a close but, it seems that the rumor mill waits for no one and @evleaks has always been known to be a hard worker so, it’s only fitting that he sees 2013 out with yet another unannounced device. Recently, we heard that LG was looking to get into the booming wearable business at next year’s CES with their G Arch and G Health brands. The leaked device that’s appeared today appears to be the “Lifeband Touch” as @evleaks has uncovered.
Of course, there’s very little to go on here but, with devices like the Fitbit and the Jawbone Up having been on the market for some time now, it doesn’t take long to realize what LG is going after here. The Lifeband Touch is more than likely the final product the “G Health” is rumored to be, a wearable that connects to your smartphone and helps you keep track of pertinent data relating to your health. Such as how many miles you’ve ran, how many steps etc etc.
We’re hoping that LG isn’t going to make this an “LG exclusive” a la Samsung’s Galaxy Gear, in fact they would smart to make it available to all Android users as the Jawbone Up and the Fitbit don’t play nice with Android carte blance, however as Sony have showed with their Smartwatch 2 if you make a device compatible with pretty much anything, you’ll quickly amass a following.
With CES barely a week away, we’ll soon know more about LG’s plans to enter the wearable business and we’re pretty sure that LG will have a number of interesting devices to show off on the show floor, even if they don’t necessarily make it to market. With Samsung, Sony and countless others offering wearable technology such as smartwatches, is LG too late to the party? Or is there time for them to get a piece of the pie too?
